Phil Riman
Phil advises companies, institutions and investors (including family offices and high net worth individuals) on corporate and transactional strategy. He has particular experience in the formulation and execution of strategies to optimise outcomes in private equity and venture capital transactions and M&A. He is a serial entrepreneur, a highly experienced CEO and holds a number of non-executive directorships.
Phil studied Modern History at University College London (where he won the Professor Dolley Prize) and went on to graduate with a Distinction from the College of Law, Guildford before qualifying as a solicitor in 1996. For many years Phil worked for global private equity house, 3i Group, advising on transactions across the UK, Continental Europe and the US. Phil also spent time in Silicon Valley with 3i working on technology deals. Phil founded his first business in 1992, took his first main board position at the age of 32 and, from 2007, was CEO of the White & Black Group through to its sale to a stock-exchange listed group in 2018. Throughout this period, Phil was consistently and independently ranked as one of the UK’s leading venture capital lawyers. Over the course of 25 years, Phil has advised on hundreds of corporate M&A, venture capital and private equity transactions, many cross-border.
Phil is a non-executive director of a number of companies including Tewke and The ExtraCare Charitable Trust and is a member of the Corporate Finance Faculty of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
